Qatar National Sports Day with Sisterhood FC

To mark the occasion of Qatar National Sports Day 2023,  the Embassy of the State of Qatar in London has partnered up with London based grass-roots community group Sisterhood FC.

Sisterhood FC is a platform to inspire and empower Muslim women in football, with members coming from diverse backgrounds and socio-economic statuses, who all share their love for their faith and football.

The purpose of Sisterhood FC is to make young girls aware that they are accepted and welcome to take part in football and that their religious requirements, such as praying, will be embraced and accommodated in a supportive, all-female team.

The financial support of
£20,000 provided by the State of Qatar will be used to support the growth of Sisterhood FC. The grant will be invested into kits, hiring pitches and developing out-reaching programmes to increase awareness amongst Muslim girls from across the UK and participation in the sport.

To commemorate the partnership and celebrate Qatar Sports Day, the Embassy of the State of Qatar in London, held a friendly football match between Sisterhood FC and Embassy staff.

In addition to the friendly football tournament, members of staff from across the mission took part in a variety of activities at Westway Sports Centre, including climbing, tennis, ping pong, volley ball and yoga.

The day was a wonderful occasion to showcase the importance of sports in bringing communities together.
