On 28 June 2020, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly decided unanimously to proclaim 9 September as, The International Day to Protect Education from Attack, to raise awareness of the plight of millions of children living in countries affected by conflict.
The resolution was led by the State of Qatar and co-sponsored by 62 countries. It was presented to the United Nations by Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All and advocate for the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In celebration of the achievement of this resolution, a distinguished virtual event will be hosted by, the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Education Above All Foundation, on 9 September 2020.
#UniteToProtect is a global campaign calling for the protection of education from attack to put an end to impunity for education-related violations of international law, and to strengthen mechanisms for the protection of education.
