HE Mr Saad Bin Sherida Al Kaabi attends the 10 year anniversary of the South Hook LNG Terminal

HE Mr Saad Bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy and HE Ambassador Yousef Ali Al-Khater joined honoured guests on, 07 October 2019, for the 10 year anniversary celebration of the South Hook LNG Terminal.

Opened by Her Majesty the Queen and the then Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani on 12  May 2009, the South Hook LNG Terminal, is the world’s fully integrated terminal that receives liquefied natural gas from the shores Qatar to the waterways of Milford Haven in Pembrokeshire West Wales, which are then re-gasified to provide almost a quarter of the UK’s current natural gas needs and has become a key facility in improving the diversity of the UK energy mix, as natural gas is one of the cleanest burning fossil fuels with carbon emissions significantly lower than coal.

During his key address, HE Mr Saad Bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy, reflected on the iconic achievements of the South Hook LNG Terminal.

‘Since its opening more than 60 million tons of LNG  have been delivered to the terminal, and we are now celebrating 10 years of safe, reliable and successful operations at the South Hook LNG Terminal. We are very proud that this important terminal is capable of process around 20% of the UK daily natural gas requirement.’

HE Mr Al Kaabi, was eager to express that such accomplishments have only further cemented the historic relations between the state of Qatar and the United Kingdom and furthered Qatar’s commitment to invest in the UK’s future; as the Terminal holds a highly significant role, in being part of the UK’s energy infrastructure, while equally strengthening the strategic relationship between the UK and Qatar.

‘While we celebrate this achievement of the 10 years that have passed, we also reaffirm our future commitment to the next 10 years and beyond. The United Kingdom is a very important market for Qatar LNG as it offers a friendly and attractive business environment and a stable regulatory framework. ‘

The South Hook LNG terminal is not only an innovative technologically advanced facility that has revolutionised the processing of natural gas, it has also provided a space for community development and outreach services that have enriched the local community of Milford Haven.

‘I am proud to note the close relationships that the terminal’s various schemes have established with the local communities in Milford Haven and beyond. I am equally proud of the support they offer to many project that are designed to help the community and which echo the key values of South Hook, from safety to education and from human well-being to the preservation of the environment.’

HE further thanked the South Hook board of directors, management and employees for their hard work and dedication without which this great partnership could not have been achieved.
