Stephen O'Brien Hails Qatar's Humanitarian Efforts

Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien hailed the efforts made by the State of Qatar in the field of humanitarian aid and relief work, which are highly appreciated by the United Nations and the international community.

Speaking to Qatari daily (Al-Sharq), O'Brien highlighted Qatar's big commitment to humanitarian issues, noting its important efforts in conflict-hit areas, especially in the Middle East.

O'Brien extended thanks and gratitude to the wise leadership and the government of Qatar for the humanitarian efforts they exert to elevate the suffering of people all over the world, noting that the State of Qatar has pledged USD 92 million in humanitarian aid in 2015, and its humanitarian contributions in the current year reached up to USD 110 million in Syria, along with other aid in Iraq, Yemen and many countries.

Qatar has built many hospitals and schools for the displaced Syrians in Turkey and other places, "I have seen all these Qatari efforts and institutions built by Doha in many places through different tours... the Qatari aid helped people dramatically and effectively," he said.

Meanwhile, the UN official highlighted Qatar's diplomatic efforts in resolving conflicts in the region, calling upon the international community to follow the Qatari example in providing humanitarian assistance in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and other countries, saying that such relief aid contribute to save the lives of innocents including women and children.
