Qatar Launches Initiative to Prevent Blindness in Developing Countries

HE Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani has unveiled a partnership with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and Qatar's pledge to support the initiative with $8 million.
Speaking during a meeting with Countess of Wessex Sophie Rhys-Jones, HE the assistant foreign minister said the initiative aims to provide treatment and care for millions of children around the world and prevent blindness in affected developing countries by supporting healthcare centers in carrying out surgeries and providing high-quality mobile medical units as well as awareness and training activities.
The initiative includes a coalition of physicians from all over the world and specialist Qatari ophthalmologists of both sexes as well as members of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness. Qatari volunteers are also part of the initiative.
Members of the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness attended the meeting.
The initiative is part of Qatar's role in backing global health agenda by enhancing its partnership with the different world countries and relevant organizations to achieve development goals. (QNA)
