The Embassy of The State of Qatar wishes to congratulate Her Majesty The Queen on her Platinum Jubilee

The Embassy of The State of Qatar wishes to congratulate Her Majesty The Queen on her Platinum Jubilee, marking 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

As the longest-serving English monarch in history, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has witnessed extraordinary changes since her coronation in 1952.

Her Majesty has served during some of the most historic moments of the relationship between Qatar and the UK.

She witnessed our country’s independence on September 3, 1971, which was followed by a treaty of Friendship with Great Britain. Since then, our country's cooperation and friendship has grown from strength to strength.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth visited Doha in 1979 as part of a six-nation Tour of the Gulf States where she was hosted by Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. Her Majesty met with Qatari pearl divers on a traditional wooden dhow seeing first-hand Qatar’s ancestral trade. She took a tour of the Doha National Museum and attended a State Dinner at Al-Rayyan Palace hosted by the Emir in honour of the Queen. In return, the Queen and Duke hosted a dinner for the Qatari Royals on the Royal Yacht Britannia.

In 2009, Her Majesty accompanied His Highness the Emir’s father Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for the joint opening of the South Hook LNG terminal in Wales and in 2010 Her Majesty welcomed His Highness for a State Visit to the UK. Just last week she met with His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.

The meeting reaffirmed not only the shared historical ties between our two nations but also epitomised our profound respect and friendship, which has been cemented in place for more than 100 years.

It is inspiring to think back on the milestones and achievements of Her Majesty. She has navigated through many hugely significant and symbolic times as well as many other challenging moments in her people’s history with poise, kindness and an indefatigable sense of duty.

On behalf of the State of Qatar, The Embassy would like to thank Her Majesty The Queen for her tireless commitment to her country and her support for the ever-deepening friendship between our two nations.

Her Majesty is a source of inspiration for us all for her strength and natural sense of duty to the British people and the Commonwealth.

The Embassy would like to wish both her and the British people, a wonderful Jubilee weekend and a long reign ahead.
